Like everyone else, my Facebook feed lit up last week with shares and reshares of the well known Kony 2012 video. While it was extremely heartening to see so many people get really excited and concerned about it, it was very discouraging to see all of this go towards a charity/movement that has serious problems.
A new mix! - Dancing with blah blah blah
I made a new mix, and even took the time to master it instead of just throwing it together in Spotify. It is called
Dancing with the Skeleton of Rock & Roll
I’ve been listening to a lot of fun rock songs lately, wanted to collect them into a nice package! It is:
fun, danceable, noisy, occasionally lo-fi - it’s garage rock.
What is with the name?? I don’t know, all of this music is generally just an endearing callback to older stuff. It’s not attempting anything new, just reveling in what’s good and pure. You should let me know if you like any of these because some of them are really my favorite things!
Tracklist:
1. Ty Segall & Mikal Cronin - I Wear Black
2. Ceremony - Quarantine
3. Tyvek - Frustration Rock
4. Mikal Cronin - Apathy
5. Strange Boys - Be Brave
6. Earth Girl Helen Brown - Girl of My Dreams
7. Epsilons - Sunshine
8. Moonhearts - I Hate Myself
9. Ty Segall - Pretty Baby (You’re So Ugly)
10. Thee Oh Sees - Crushed Grass
11. The Men - Candy
12. Hunx - Hairdresser Blues
13. Shannon and The Clams - Take It Back
Occupy Austin Guerrilla Gardeners make one new public garden every week. Some have been destroyed by the city, others remain and are sprouting vegetables. We have had run ins with park staff who are confounded by our activities and threaten us with police who never show up.
We do this to make people rethink notions of food, of where it comes from, of who produces it. We do this to make people rethink the use of space and the concept of property. We do this to make people rethink the concept of labor versus employment. We do this so you will do it to.Growing food as a revolutionary act. Interesting.

SOMEHOW this song is largely missing from John Lee Hooker compilations. Seriously one of my favorites.
Spoon released a bonus EP called “Get Nice!” with the first few thousand pressings of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga and it is seriously such a treat. It is loose, dirty and haunting. Between this and Loveways (still my favorite album??), Spoon is pretty damned good at EPs.
There’s only one necessary response to today’s political event, and Tim Heidecker has already made it.
(buy the album here and proceeds go to medical clinics for abused children: http://littlerecordcompany.com/store.html)
“I ain’t a’ scared of your jail ‘cause I want my freedom!”
